Abstract
ABSTRACT Background : Low Birth Weight (LBW) infants are babies with a birth weight of less than 2500 grams who have a high risk of thermoregulatory disorders such as hypothermia due to thin subcutaneous fat and an immature body temperature regulation system. One non-pharmacological intervention that can be used to maintain the stability of body temperature in LBW infants is Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC), a method of care through direct skin-to-skin contact between mother and baby. Objective : This study aims to describe the implementation of Kangaroo Mother Care, including pre-intervention and post-intervention body temperature measurements in low birth weight infants with risk of hypothermia. Methods : This research is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach using a case study design. The research subjects consisted of two LBW infants experiencing thermoregulatory disorders. Results : he study showed that the implementation of Kangaroo Mother Care was able to help maintain body temperature stability in both LBW infants. In subject 1, there was an average increase in body temperature of 0.2°C, while in subject 2 it was 0.32°C. In addition to increasing body temperature, KMC also provided comfort to the infants and improved bonding attachment between mother and baby Conclusion : This study indicates that Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) is effective as a non-pharmacological intervention in helping to stabilize body temperature in low birth weight infants. Recommendation : It is expected that KMC can be optimally implemented in LBW infants both in hospitals and at home.
