Abstract
Drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) is a global health problem caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis that is resistant to first-line antituberculosis drugs. Treatment of DR-TB requires the use of second-line drugs in combination with several other medications, one of which is moxifloxacin, a member of the fluoroquinolone class. Although effective in treating DR-TB, the use of moxifloxacin has the potential to cause side effects. This study aims to determine the profile of side effects associated with the use of moxifloxacin in MDR-TB patients at Dr. Soekardjo Regional General Hospital in Tasikmalaya City. This study employed a quantitative descriptive method with a retrospective observational design. The study population consisted of 58 patients with TB-RO at Dr. Soekardjo Regional General Hospital in Tasikmalaya City in 2024. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, with inclusion criteria limited to TB-RO patients receiving moxifloxacin therapy and aged ≥15 years. The data used consisted of secondary data from patients’ medical records, which were analyzed descriptively using frequency tables and percentages. The results of the study indicate that the use of moxifloxacin in patients with TB-RO can cause side effects such as gastrointestinal disturbances, neuropsychiatric symptoms, anorexia, tendon issues, allergic reactions, liver disease, arthralgia and arthritis, and malaise. Most side effects are mild to moderate and are tolerable during treatment. Regular monitoring of side effects is necessary to improve treatment safety and ensure successful treatment outcomes for TB-RO patients. Keywords : Drug resistant tuberculosis, drug side effect, moxifloxacin
