Abstract
Hospitalization in preschool children is often a stressful experience that can cause anxiety due to separation from their families, the unfamiliar hospital environment, and various medical procedures. These conditions may affect children's comfort, adaptive abilities, and cooperation during treatment. If not properly managed, anxiety may hinder the recovery process, increase children's fear of medical procedures, and reduce the quality of nursing care. This Final Nursing Scientific Paper aimed to describe the implementation of the "My Emotion Wheel" drawing art therapy in reducing anxiety among preschool children hospitalized in Sa’id Bin Zaid Ward, Welas Asih Regional General Hospital, West Java Province. This study was based on the concepts of preschool children, hospitalization, anxiety, and the "My Emotion Wheel" drawing art therapy. The method used was a case study involving two preschool children who experienced hospitalization-related anxiety. The intervention was administered once daily for three consecutive days, with each session lasting approximately 15 minutes. Anxiety levels were measured using the Preschool Anxiety Scale (PAS) before and after the intervention. The results showed a decrease in anxiety scores in both patients, with An. F's score decreasing from 54 to 24 and An. A's score from 64 to 42. Both children also appeared calmer, more cooperative, able to recognize and express their emotions, showed more positive responses during nursing procedures, and adapted better to the hospital environment. In conclusion, the "My Emotion Wheel" drawing art therapy helped reduce anxiety in hospitalized preschool children and can be used as an effective non-pharmacological nursing intervention in pediatric nursing care. It is recommended that this intervention be incorporated into pediatric nursing practice in hospitals and further investigated in future studies involving larger sample sizes. Keywords: art therapy, My Emotion Wheel, anxiety, hospitalization, preschool-aged children.
