Abstract
Postpartum hemorrhage remains one of the leading causes of maternal mortality in Indonesia. One effort to prevent postpartum hemorrhage is by accelerating the uterine involution process through oxytocin hormone stimulation. Early Breastfeeding Initiation (EBI) and oxytocin massage are non-pharmacological interventions that can increase uterine contractions and accelerate uterine involution in postpartum mothers. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of EBI and oxytocin massage on the time of uterine involution in postpartum mothers at UPT Puskesmas Sukahurip, Garut Regency, in 2026. This study used a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design using a posttest only control group design. The population consisted of all postpartum mothers in the working area of UPT Puskesmas Sukahurip, Garut Regency, in 2026 totaling 150 people. The sample consisted of 72 respondents divided into 36 intervention groups and 36 control groups using purposive sampling technique. The intervention group received EBI and oxytocin massage, while the control group received EBI and normal postpartum care. Uterine involution was measured based on the time when the uterine fundus was no longer palpable and vaginal discharge (lochia). The results showed that EBI and oxytocin massage affected the acceleration of uterine involution in postpartum mothers. The intervention group experienced a faster decrease in fundal height compared to the control group, accompanied by lochia changes according to the normal uterine involution process. EBI and oxytocin massage were proven to help increase uterine contractions through oxytocin hormone stimulation, thereby supporting postpartum recovery and reducing the risk of postpartum hemorrhage.
