Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder that requires proper dietary management, one of which is the implementation of a low glycemic index diet to help control blood glucose levels and prevent complications. Based on data from the Purbaratu Public Health Center, the prevalence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus has increased annually, while patients’ adherence to dietary management remains low. This condition indicates the need for educational media that are practical, attractive, and easy to understdan in order to improve patients’ knowledge regarding a low glycemic index diet. This study aimed to design a prototype of flipchart educational media concerning knowledge regarding a low glycemic index diet among patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus at the Purbaratu Public Health Center, Tasikmalaya City. This study employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the 4D model, which consists of the Define, Design, Develop, dan Disseminate stages; however, the study was limited to the Develop stage. The results showed that the developed flipchart educational media obtained a material expert validation score of 89%, categorized as highly feasible; a media expert validation score of 87%, categorized as highly feasible; and a language expert validation score of 97%, categorized as highly feasible. In addition, the trial conducted on 12 respondents showed a feasibility score of 98%, categorized as highly feasible. Therefore, the flipchart educational media is considered feasible to be used as an educational tool to improve the understdaning of patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in selecting appropriate foods based on the glycemic index.
