Abstract
Breakfast is the act of eating and drinking in the morning until 9:00 a.m., and contributes to 15 to 30 percent of daily nutritional needs. Breakfast serves as a source of energy that supports various learning activities for school children. One method to determine a person's nutritional condition is by using the Body Mass Index for Age (BMI/U), which aims to identify malnutrition or obesity. The purpose of this study was to understand the breakfast habits and nutritional conditions of school children at Padamenak 1 Public Elementary School. This study used a descriptive method and applied a purposive sampling technique. The sample consisted of 30 children. Data collection was carried out through interviews using questionnaires and 24-hour food recall forms with direct measurements using digital foot scales and microtoises. The study was conducted from April 20, 2026, to May 10, 2026, at Padamenak 1 Public Elementary School, Kuningan Regency. The results showed that 36.6% of respondents had sufficient breakfast frequency, 96.6% had the right breakfast time, and 96.6% consumed a balanced amount and type of breakfast food. Based on the energy contribution of breakfast, the majority of respondents (56.6%) were still in the insufficient category (<15% of the RDA), while 23.3% were in the good category (15-30% of the RDA), and 20.0% were in the excessive category (>30%). Based on nutritional status, as measured by BMI/Age, 80% of the population was found to be well-nourished, while 6.6% were obese. This was influenced by various contributing factors, such as parental education level and family income.
