Abstract
Prolonged second stage of labor may increase the risk of complications for both mother and baby, such as prolonged labor and neonatal asphyxia. One of the non-pharmacological methods that can help facilitate labor is pregnancy exercise. Pregnancy exercise improves pelvic muscle strength, breathing techniques, and maternal physical readiness for childbirth. This study aimed to determine the effect of pregnancy exercise on the duration of the second stage of labor in the working area of UPTD Puskesmas Indihiang, Tasikmalaya City. This study used a quantitative analytical observational design with a quasi experimental approach and a post-test only control group design. The sample consisted of 32 third-trimester pregnant women selected using purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using observation sheets, maternal and child health books, and partographs. Data analysis was performed using the independent sample t-test with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed that the mean duration of the second stage of labor among mothers who regularly participated in pregnancy exercise was 32.94 minutes with a standard deviation of 6.567, while mothers who did not regularly participate had a mean duration of 55.50 minutes with a standard deviation of 3.445. Statistical analysis showed that there was a significant effect of pregnancy exercise on the duration of the second stage of labor with a p-value < 0.05. Pregnancy exercise has an effect on shortening the duration of the second stage of labor. Mothers who regularly participated in pregnancy exercise experienced a shorter second stage of labor compared to those who did not regularly participate. Keywords: Pregnancy exercise, duration of second stage labor, third trimester pregnant women.
