Abstract
Diabetes Mellitus is a group of metabolic disorders characterized by hyperglycemia. Hyperglycemia is a condition in which blood glucose levels exceed the normal range due to abnormalities in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. One of the efforts to manage blood glucose levels in individuals with Diabetes Mellitus is through proper dietary regulation and appropriate food intake. Adequate knowledge about the disease can influence eating behavior, which in turn affects blood glucose control and overall health. Individuals with good knowledge about Diabetes Mellitus are more likely to understand the importance of maintaining a healthy diet to regulate blood glucose levels. This study aims to describe the energy and macronutrient intake, as well as the level of knowledge among patients with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus at Indihiang Public Health Center in Tasikmalaya City. This research is a descriptive-analytic study. The sampling technique used was consecutive sampling. A total of 95 respondents with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus participated in this study. The instruments used were a 24-hour food recall to assess energy and macronutrient intake, and the DKQ-24 questionnaire to measure respondents’ knowledge of Diabetes Mellitus. The results showed that most respondents had a moderate level of knowledge (77%), while energy (58%), protein (53%), fat (47%), and carbohydrate (65%) intake were in the insufficient category. These findings indicate a mismatch between knowledge and dietary practices, highlighting the need for continuous nutrition education to support better management of Diabetes Mellitus.
