Abstract
Introduction: Peer education has become an alternative in the effort of natural learning among peers with similarities, enabling them to strengthen and learn from each other, as well as share experiences related to the knowledge they possess, particularly regarding unintended pregnancies in women of childbearing age. Unintended pregnancy (UP) consists of pregnancies that are either mistimed or completely unwanted. UP can lead to unplanned births and can disrupt the physical and mental health of both mother and child. UP is also an indicator of increased risks of adverse birth outcomes such as premature birth, premature rupture of membranes, and low birth weight, and can lead to miscarriage. According to data from Ancol Village, Cineam District, there are 7 cases of unintended pregnancy occurring in women of childbearing age between 20-35 years. The aim of this research is to analyse the influence of peer educations on the knowledge and attitudes of women of childbearing age regarding the prevention of unwanted pregnancies in Ancol Village, Cineam District, Tasikmalaya Regency. Method: This study employs a Quasi-Experimental research design with a Nonequivalent (Pretest and Posttest) One Group Design, involving 57 married women of childbearing age aged 20-35 years. Data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Research results: The knowledge of women of childbearing age (WUS) before receiving peer education on the prevention of unwanted pregnancies was mostly lacking (64.9%) and improved to good (89.5%) after receiving peer education, while the attitudes of WUS before peer education were mostly negative (61.4%) and improved to positive (70.2%) after receiving peer education. The Wilcoxon Test showed that there is an influence of Peer educations on the knowledge and attitudes of women of childbearing age in the prevention of unwanted pregnancies (p=0.000). Conclusion: There is an influence of Peer educations on the knowledge and attitudes of women of childbearing age in the prevention of unwanted pregnancies in Ancol Village, Cineam District, Tasikmalaya Regency. Key words: Peer education, Knowledge, Attitude, Unwanted Pregnancy
