Abstract
Sanitation is one of the components of environmental health that has a significant impact on human health. Poor hygiene can lead to the occurrence of diseases, including gastrointestinal diseases. Gastrointestinal diseases are caused by bacteria. The bacteria that cause gastrointestinal infections are pathogenic bacteria that belong to the Enterobacteriaceae family, Salmonella genus, Shigella genus, and Escherichia genus. Garlic (Allium sativum) contains allicin compounds that can inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria in the digestive tract in vitro. This research was conducted to determine the inhibitory ability of garlic (Allium sativum) as an antibacterial agent against pathogenic bacteria of the Salmonella, Shigella, and Escherichia genera. The method used in this research is Systematic Literature Review (SLR), through a literature review on the antibacterial effectiveness of garlic (Allium sativum) bulbs against the growth of Salmonella, Shigella, and Escherichia bacteria. Data analysis in this research utilizes bibliographic annotation analysis, thus enabling the extraction of simple conclusions from various relevant literature to facilitate answering the research questions. 23 (Twenty-three) literatures that meet the inclusion criteria were obtained. Based on the literature review results, garlic bulbs have antibacterial activity against the growth of Salmonella genus (Salmonella typhi) of weak to strong category, Shigella genus (Shigella dysenteriae) of weak to strong category, and Escherichia genus (Escherichia coli) of weak to very strong category.
