Abstract
Indonesia is a country with various nutritional problems. Based on the results of the 2018 Basic Health Research, the main nutritional problems in Indonesia are wasting, underweight, and stunting. Stunting is a nutritional problem with the highest prevalence among other nutritional problems. One of the causes of stunting is breastfeeding, which is not optimal because of a lack of milk production due to the mother's low and unbalanced nutritional intake. The aim of this study was to describe the consumption of vegetables and fruits and the nutritional status of breastfeeding mothers. This type of research was descriptive. The research sample consisted of 35 breastfeeding mothers who had toddlers aged 0–24 months, using a purposive sampling technique. Data collection was carried out through anthropometric measurements and interviews using a questionnaire and the SQ-FFQ form. The results showed that 37% of breastfeeding mothers in Sindangmekar Village, Wanaraja District, Garut Regency were in the age category of 21–25 years, 46% of breastfeeding mothers had high school education or an equivalent, and 100% of breastfeeding mothers were housewives. There were 80% of respondents who consumed vegetables in the less category; on the other hand, 74% of respondents had consumed enough fruit, while the accumulation of the two contained 54% of respondents who were still lacking in consuming vegetables and fruit. In terms of the nutritional status of respondents, 71% were of normal weight, and 14% were obese. It is recommended that breastfeeding mothers monitor their nutritional status more often and increase their consumption of vegetables and fruit to overcome or prevent problems with milk production. Keywords: Vegetables, Fruits, Nutritional Status, Breastfeeding Mothers
