Abstract
Background: Saliva is an exocrine fluid in the mouth that comes into contact with the mucosal and teeth, derived from three pairs of major salivary glands and minor salivary glands in the oral mucosa or periodonsium. Factors that cause changes in salival pH are, the speed of salivary flow, oral cavity microorganisms and saliva buffer capitas. Guava water fruit serves as a natural toothbrush or self cleansing, this fruit helps stimulate the gums, increase saliva (saliva) in the mouth so as to prevent plaque buildup, and clean the surface of the teeth. Purpose: This study aims to find out the pH picture of saliva before and after consuming guava water. Method: This study uses a type of one group pre-test-post-test design which is a way of measuring by taking one measurement in front (pre-test) before the treatment (experimental treatment) and after that measurement (post-test). Results: The results of this study showed that the acid criteria from 33 people (83%) to 14 people (35%), neutral criteria (0%), while the base criteria of 7 people (18%) to 26 people (65%). Conclusion: From the results of this study it can be known that there is an increase in saliva pH before and after consuming guava water.
