Abstract

Background: Hypertension is often referred to as the "silent disease" because many individuals are unaware of their condition until their blood pressure is measured. High blood pressure is defined as a systolic pressure exceeding 140 mmHg and a diastolic pressure exceeding 90 mmHg. Hypertension increases the workload of the heart and arteries, which, if left unaddressed, can lead to damage to the heart and blood vessels. A disease within a family affects the health status of its members. When one family member experiences a health problem, the entire family system is influenced. Hypertensive patients often receive insufficient attention from their families; if the family lacks knowledge about hypertension management, it can result in suboptimal care. Objective: To determine the changes in blood pressure and the level of family independence in Mr. K's and Mr. E's families following the implementation of Brisk Walking Exercise education for hypertensive patients at Sindangkasih Primary Health Center. Method: This case study was conducted on two families with hypertensive members within the working area of Sindangkasih Primary Health Center over one week. The intervention involved three sessions of Brisk Walking Exercise, carried out using a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). Results: There was a reduction in blood pressure in Mrs. E and Mrs. T, as well as an increase in family independence in caring for family members with hypertension after the Brisk Walking Exercise intervention. Conclusion: There was a decrease in blood pressure in Mrs. E and Mrs. T following the Brisk Walking Exercise intervention, along with an improvement in family independence in managing the health of family members with hypertension at Sindangkasih Primary Health Center.
