Abstract
THE EFFECT OF DURATION OF USE OF DEPO MEDROXYPROGESTERONE ACETATE (DMPA) INJECTABLE CONTRACEPTION ON THE INCREASE IN FASTING BLOOD SUGAR LEVELS IN WANASARI VILLAGE, WANARAJA DISTRICT, GARUT REGENCY IN 2026 Politeknik Kesehatan Tasikmalaya Program Studi Sarjana Terapan Kebidanan Email: sumyatinurhayati988@gmail.com ABSTRACT In 2024, there were 205 couples of childbearing age using contraception in Wanasari Village, of which 49% were using DMPA injections. Long-term use of DMPA injections is known to have metabolic side effects, one of which is weight gain (central obesity), which can potentially affect blood sugar levels. The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of prolonged use of Depo Medroxyprogesterone Acetate (DMPA) injections on fasting blood sugar levels. The sampling technique used in this study was simple random sampling with a total sample size of 147 respondents. Data were collected using a questionnaire and observation forms, then analyzed using the Chi-square test. The results showed that the longest duration of DMPA injection use was 3-5 years (44.2%). The majority of DMPA injectable contraceptive users were prediabetic (57.8%). There was an effect of the duration of use of the injectable contraceptive Depo Medroxyprogesterone Acetate (DMPA) on increasing fasting blood sugar levels, with a p-value of 0.006. The conclusion is that injectable contraceptive use does affect fasting blood sugar levels. Keywords: Duration of use, Fasting blood sugar levels, DMPA injectable contraceptive
