Abstract
THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FREQUENCY OF FAST FOOD AND SOFT DRINK CONSUMPTION WITH DIABETES MELLITUS RISK AMONG ADOLESCENTS AT SMP IT FITRAH INSANI LELES, GARUT REGENCY Suci Novia Ramadanti Politeknik Kesehatan Tasikmalaya Program Studi Sarjana Terapan Kebidanan Email: snoviaramadanti@gmail.com ABSTRACT Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic health problem that is increasingly found among adolescents. One of the contributing risk factors is the consumption pattern of high-calorie foods and beverages such as fast food and soft drinks. These consumption habits may increase the risk of metabolic disorders if carried out continuously. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between the frequency of fast food and soft drink consumption with the risk of diabetes mellitus among adolescents at SMP IT Fitrah Insani Leles, Garut Regency. This study used a quantitative method with an observational analytic design and a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used was total sampling with a total of 51 respondents. The research instruments included a questionnaire on fast food and soft drink consumption frequency and a diabetes mellitus risk assessment. Data analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that out of 51 respondents, the majority, 29 respondents (56.9%), were in the at-risk category for diabetes mellitus, while 22 respondents (43.1%) were not at risk. Regarding fast food consumption, respondents with high consumption were more likely to be in the at-risk group. Statistical analysis showed a significant relationship between fast food consumption frequency and diabetes mellitus risk with a p-value of 0.029, and a significant relationship between soft drink consumption and diabetes mellitus risk with a p-value of 0.029. This indicates that the more frequent the consumption of fast food and soft drinks, the higher the risk of diabetes mellitus among adolescents.
