Abstract
The prevalence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (Type 2 DM) is increasing globally, with 537 million sufferers recorded in the world in 2021 and projected to reach 643 million in 2030. In Indonesia, the prevalence increased from 1.5% (2018) to 1.7% (2023), while at the Purbaratu Community Health Center, cases of DM sufferers also continued to rise significantly, reaching 336 people in 2025. Literature Review, the management of Type 2 DM is highly dependent on the Four Pillars, including Nutrition Therapy, so that it is necessary to measure nutritional status using anthropometric indicators such as Body Mass Index (BMI), Waist Circumference (LP), Waist-Hip Ratio (WHR), and Waist-Height Ratio (WHRT). Therefore, the purpose of this study is to design a prototype pocket book to address the lack of available educational media. The research method used was Research and Development (R&D) with the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop). The prototype was validated by experts (material, media, language) and tested on a limited sample of 12 Type 2 DM patients and cadres selected through purposive sampling. A small-scale trial was conducted on 12 DM patients in the Purbaratu Community Health Center (Puskesmas) area. Validation results showed that the material experts scored 84%, the media experts 92%, and the language experts 86%, categorized as very valid. The results of the patient-respondent trial showed an average score of 91%, categorized as very valid. The results of the small-scale trial with 6 cadres scored 98%, categorized as very valid. Based on these results, the pocket book was declared suitable for use as a nutrition education medium.
