Abstract
Inflammation is a protective response caused by tissue damage. Inflammatory therapy using non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs is known to have many side effects. These unwanted effects can be avoided by utilizing natural ingredients, namely meniran herb extract as an anti-inflammatory in the form of a patch that can provide a sense of comfort in using the drug, maintain the bioavailability of the drug in plasma, avoid the first-pass effect in oral administration. In the context of developing traditional medicinal preparations, research is needed regarding the formulation of patches of meniran herb extract with a combination of HPMC and PVP polymers as matrices. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of the combination of HPMC and PVP on the characteristics of the patch preparation matrix. This research method is experimental research with three combination formulas of HPMC: PVP, namely 3:2 (F1), 1:1 (F2), and 2:3 (F3). Data analysis was carried out using descriptive analysis including organoleptic, weight uniformity, pH, thickness, resistance to folding and humidity. Based on the results of the organoleptic test the best formula is F2 with a total of 250mg HPMC: 250mg PVP because it produces a smooth and elastic patch so that when it is affixed to the skin it does not come off easily and is comfortable, weight uniformity 1.65g ± 0.18, pH 4.45 ± 0.00, thickness 0.85mm ± 0.04, durability > 300 times and humidity 25.62% ± 2.07.
