Abstract
Background: The common cold is an upper respiratory tract infection often treated with self-medication. The high rate of common cold cases in Indonesia is around 9.3%, with a total incidence of 1,017,290 cases, and a high self-medication rate of 84.34% in 2022. This self-medication rate is higher than the 2021 rate of 84.23%. The risk of inappropriate medication use is an important concern, and it is important to understand the level of public knowledge regarding the use of common cold medications. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of public knowledge about common cold diseases and medications in Sukamajukidul Village, Indihiang District, Tasikmalaya City. Method: A quantitative descriptive design using a cross-sectional method. Respondents were selected by purposive sampling from the population of 3,080 common cold cases at the Indihiang Community Health Center in 2025. A questionnaire on common cold medication knowledge was distributed to 100 respondents and processed using Microsoft Excel. The study was conducted in May 2026 in Sukamajukidul Village, Indihiang District, Tasikmalaya City. Research results: the level of knowledge of the people of Sukamajukidul Village regarding Common Cold medicine is mostly 80 respondents (80.0%), fair 20 respondents (20.0%) and less 0 (none). Based on the research results, it can be concluded that most of the level of knowledge of the people of Sukamajukidul Village, Indihiang District, Tasikmalaya City has good knowledge (80%).
