Abstract

Hair is a part often exposed to direct sunlight. This can cause hair-related problems due to free radicals formed by exposure to UV rays. Kutus-kutus oil is believed to have many benefits because it is made from a wide variety of plants that have potential as antioxidants. This study aims to test the antioxidant activity in the kutus-kutus oil and formulate it into pomade. This study used a laboratory experimental method by using the variations in the concentration of kutus-kutus oil on antioxidant tests of 0 ppm, 40 ppm, 80 ppm, 120 ppm, 160 ppm, and 200 ppm. Other tests performed are phytochemical screening and preparation characteristic tests. Research results were obtained that the kutus-kutus oil was positively contained flavonoids, alkaloids, steroids, terpenoids, tannins, and had antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 43,095 ppm. kutus-kutus oil can be formulated into pomade as well as having solid characteristics, white in color, homogeneous, having a distinctive scent of paraffin and jasmine with little aroma of kutus-kutus oil. In addition, it has a range of pH values that ranges from 5,19 - 5,53, has a spread power of between 1,83 cm – 3,21 cm and an adhesive power that ranges from 5,28 seconds – 8,29 seconds. So the kutus-kutus oil has antioxidant activity and can be formulated in pomade preparation.
