Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is one of the biggest health problems in Indonesia. Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a non-communicable disease that is included in metabolic diseases in the form of hyperglycemia caused by a disturbance in the function of insulin in the body. Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus must continue to follow dietary management of diabetes mellitus throughout their lives. Knowledge in people with diabetes mellitus can affect the perception of diabetes mellitus they experience. Patients who do not understand diabetes mellitus are often not compliant in undergoing diabetes mellitus dietary management. Therefore, the knowledge and perception about diabetes mellitus of patients is very important in helping to keep following the dietary management of diabetes mellitus. This study aims to determine the Overview of Knowledge, Perceptions, and Dietary Compliance in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus at Tamansari Health Center, Tasikmalaya City. This research is an analytic descriptive research. The sampling method used was consecutive sampling technique. Respondents who participated in this study amounted to 78 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Data collection of respondent characteristics using an identity questionnaire. The data on knowledge, perception, and dietary compliance of respondents used a questionnaire of knowledge, perception, and dietary compliance. The results showed that the level of knowledge included the good category (70%), positive category perception (51.3%), and adherence to the adherence category diet (48.8%). The conclusion of this study is that people with type 2 diabetes mellitus at the Tamansari Health Center in Tasikmalaya City have good knowledge and positive perceptions in supporting diet arrangements so that respondents tend to be obedient in implementing the recommended diet.
