Abstract
Background: Dental caries is a chronic disease that is common in elementary school-aged children aged 6-12 years. The prevalence of dental caries in the age group of 10-14 years is 89,5% which is still very high. Permanent first molars are the first teeth to erupt at the age of 6-7 years, have a deep pit and fissure shape, making it easier for food debris to enter so that they are the teeth most at risk for caries. One of the causes of a person getting caries is due to a lack of knowledge about maintaining healthy teeth and mouth. Objective: Knowing the caries description of the permanent first molars and knowledge about dental and oral health. Method: Using descriptive research with a survey method. Sampling using total sampling. The research measuring instrument used a caries examination form for the first permanent molars and a dental and oral health knowledge questionnaire. Result: The number of caries on permanent first molars was 145 teeth with the most caries found on tooth 3.6 (33,10%) while the level of knowledge about dental and oral health was included in the less criteria as many as 46 out of a total of 62 sample. Conclusion: Based on the results of the study there is still caries on the permanent first molars which is quite high and the level of knowledge of dental and oral health is included in the less criteria so that it will affect attitudes and behavior in maintaining healthy teeth and mouth.
