Abstract
Kata Kunci: BBLR, stunting, balita ABSTRACT Background: Stunting is a chronic nutritional issue that remains a health priority in Indonesia due to its impact on physical growth, cognitive development, productivity, and the quality of human resources. One factor suspected to be associated with stunting is a history of Low Birth Weight (LBW). Infants born weighing less than 2,500 grams are at risk of growth disturbances ranging from the fetal stage through early childhood. This study aims to determine the association between a history of LBW and stunting status among children under five years of age in the working area of the Pasawahan Community Health Center (Puskesmas), Kuningan Regency. Methods: This study employed an observational analytic design with a case-control approach. The sample consisted of 750 children aged 12–59 months, comprising 150 stunted children (case group) and 600 non-stunted children (control group) in a 1:4 ratio. Data were obtained from the e-PPGM (Sigizi Kesga) application for the 2024–2025 period. Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate methods, utilizing the chi-square test and Odds Ratio (OR) calculation. Results: The majority of the children did not have a history of LBW (710 children or 94.7%), while 40 children (5.3%) had a history of LBW. The analysis revealed a significant association between a history of LBW and stunting status (p<0.001). An OR of 6.45 indicates that children with a history of LBW have a 6.45 times higher risk of stunting compared to those with normal birth weight. Conclusion: A history of LBW is significantly associated with the occurrence of stunting in children under five. Stunting prevention efforts should begin during pregnancy through improved antenatal care, monitoring of maternal nutrition, prevention of LBW, and strengthened interventions during the "First 1,000 Days of Life," alongside home visits for high-risk groups.
