Abstract
Latar Belakang: Penyakit Paru Obstruktif Kronik (PPOK) merupakan penyakit pernapasan kronis yang ditandai oleh hambatan aliran udara sehingga dapat menyebabkan gangguan ventilasi dan penurunan saturasi oksigen. Salah satu masalah keperawatan yang sering muncul adalah pola napas tidak efektif yang ditandai dengan sesak napas dan peningkatan frekuensi napas. Salah satu intervensi nonfarmakologis yang dapat diberikan yaitu balloon blowing exercise untuk membantu meningkatkan ventilasi paru dan proses pertukaran gas. Tujuan: Menggambarkan implementasi balloon blowing exercise, mengidentifikasi perubahan kondisi respirasi dan menganalisis respons pasien PPOK dengan masalah keperawatan pola napas tidak efektif. Metode: Penelitian menggunakan desain deskriptif kualitatif terhadap dua pasien PPOK yang mengalami masalah keperawatan pola napas tidak efektif. Intervensi dilakukan selama 5 hari berturut-turut selama 10 menit per hari. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara dan observasi. Hasil: Implementasi balloon blowing exercise menunjukkan perbaikan kondisi respirasi pada kedua pasien. Pasien 1 mengalami penurunan frekuensi napas dari 25 menjadi 18 kali/menit dan peningkatan saturasi oksigen dari 94% menjadi 98%, sedangkan pasien 2 mengalami penurunan frekuensi napas dari 25 menjadi 19 kali/menit dan peningkatan saturasi oksigen dari 93% menjadi 99%. Meskipun terdapat variasi respons, kedua pasien mengalami perbaikan bertahap. Kesimpulan: Implementasi balloon blowing exercise selama lima hari menunjukkan perbaikan pada pola napas pasien PPOK melalui penurunan frekuensi napas dan peningkatan saturasi oksigen. Intervensi ini dapat menjadi alternatif tindakan keperawatan nonfarmakologis untuk mendukung fungsi respirasi. Background: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a chronic respiratory disorder characterized by airflow limitation that may result in impaired ventilation and decreased oxygen saturation. One of the common nursing problems in COPD patients is an ineffective breathing pattern, indicated by shortness of breath and increased respiratory rate. A non-pharmacological intervention that may support respiratory improvement is balloon blowing exercise, which aims to enhance pulmonary ventilation and facilitate gas exchange. Objective: To describe the implementation of balloon blowing exercise, identify changes in respiratory condition after the intervention, and analyze differences in responses between two COPD patients with ineffective breathing patterns. Method: This study used a qualitative descriptive case study approach involving two COPD patients with ineffective breathing patterns. The intervention was carried out for five consecutive days, with a duration of 10 minutes per day. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and physical examination. Results: The implementation of balloon blowing exercise showed improvements in respiratory condition in both patients. Patient 1 experienced a decrease in respiratory rate from 25 to 18 breaths/minute and an increase in oxygen saturation from 94% to 98%. Patient 2 showed a decrease in respiratory rate from 25 to 19 breaths/minute and an increase in oxygen saturation from 93% to 99%. Overall, the intervention contributed to gradual improvement in breathing patterns and oxygen saturation. Conclusion: Balloon blowing exercise improved breathing patterns through reduced respiratory rate and increased oxygen saturation and may be considered a non-pharmacological nursing intervention for COPD patients with ineffective breathing patterns.
