Abstract

Background of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a condition where kidney function for regulating metabolism, fluid balance, and electrolytes gradually declines, ultimately requiring renal replacement therapy. Hemodialysis is one such therapy that addresses the decline in kidney function through the use of a dialysis membrane or filtration. In Indonesia, the diagnosis of CKD is recorded at 0.38% or 713,783 individuals, while in West Java, the diagnosis stands at 0.48% or 131,846 individuals, with the number of patients undergoing hemodialysis at 19.34 % or 651 individuals. Due to the illness they experience, patients may face physical factors that can lead to stress, anxiety, or depression. Progressive Muscle Relaxation is a non-pharmacological therapy aimed at reducing anxiety in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis. This study uses the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) as an instrument. The objective of this research is to determine whether Progressive Muscle Relaxation can lower moderate anxiety levels. The research method employs a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study design, conducted over a period of five days with two subjects, starting from April 11 to April 15, 2025. The final scores showed that the first patient improved from a score of 26 (moderate) to 14 (mild), and the second patient from a score of 27 to 16 (mild). The findings of this study indicate that the Progressive Muscle Relaxation technique administered by the author reduced moderate anxiety levels to mild. In conclusion, this scientific paper concludes that Progressive Muscle Relaxation can help reduce anxiety in patients undergoing hemodialysis.
