Abstract

Elementary school children are the future generation of the nation. Children aged 10-12 years are in a period of rapid growth, so they need a balanced nutritional intake to support physical activity, brain development, and overall body function. The purpose of this study was to determine the description of fat intake and nutritional status in elementary school children in grades V-VI at SDN 13 Regol Garut in 2025. The type of research is descriptive with a cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted in May 2025 at SDN 13 Regol Garut. The study population was 113 students with a sample in this study of elementary school children in grades V-VI at SDN 13 Regol Garut totaling 53 students. The data collection technique used the proportional simple random sampling technique. Data collection was carried out by measuring body weight, height and direct interviews with respondents regarding fat intake using the SQ-FFQ form. Data were analyzed descriptively. The results of anthropometric measurements showed that the nutritional status of students was 66% good, 21% more, 13% obese, and there were no students who were malnourished. Fat intake in the good category was 36%, less 43%, and more 21%. The average fat consumed by students was 55 grams with the lowest value of 21.5 grams, and the highest value of 107.7 grams. This study found a nutritional paradox in students, where 9% were overweight and 2% obese even though fat intake was relatively low. Being overweight can be caused by excess calories from consuming excess carbohydrates and sugar. The main source of fat comes from fried foods and fast foods such as nuggets, sausages, and snacks such as cireng which are consumed by 74% of students. It is hoped that this study can provide an overview of fat intake and nutritional status in grades V-VI at SDN 13 Regol Garut in 2025 and can increase the understanding of parents, teachers, and students about the importance of balanced fat intake in supporting optimal nutritional status for elementary school children.
