Abstract
Background: Prolonged labor can cause infection, fatigue, dehydration and postpartum bleeding. The duration of labor is influenced by the strength of uterine contractions and the mother's strength when pushing. One way to increase maternal strength during labor is to ensure adequate nutritional intake. Honey and Saffron can be an alternative source of glucose-rich nutrition for mothers during labor. This study aims to determine the effect of giving honey and saffron on the duration of labor in primiparous mothers. Method: The type of research used in this research is quasi-experimental with a post-test only design with control group design. This research was carried out in April - May 2024 in the Kawalu working area. The sample in this study was 30 primigravida mothers aged 20-35 years with a gestational age of 37-40 weeks and who had entered the first stage of the active phase or 4 cm cervical dilation, divided into 2 groups, the group given honey and saffron (intervention group) and the group that was only given honey (control group). The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Results: The research results showed that the average duration of the first stage of labor in the active phase in the intervention group was 217.33 minutes while in the control group it was 315.60 minutes. The results of analysis using Mann Whitney showed a p-value of 0.000<0.05. This shows that there is a significant difference between the average duration of the first stage of the active phase with the honey and saffron intervention and the control group. Conclusion: There is an effect of giving honey and saffron on the duration of the first stage of labor in the active phase.
