Abstract
ACCURACY OF CODING INJURY AND EXTERNAL CAUSES BASED ON ICD-10 AND ICD-9 CM IN JASA KARTINI HOSPITAL IN 2023 63 Pages, V Chapters, 30 Tables, 2 Images, 20 Attachment ABSTRACT Background: Accurate coding of disease diagnosis is important. In the context of injury cases, ICD-10 requires the use of the 4th and 5th digits to indicate the location and activity when the injury occurred. A preliminary study at Jasa Kartini Hospital showed that 80% of medical records were inaccurate in coding injuries and and 100% inaccurate external cause codes. This is because there has not been any coding training for coders regarding coding of injuries and external causes. Purpose: To determine the accuracy of coding injuries and external causes based on ICD-10 and ICD-9 CM at Jasa Kartini Hospital in 2023. Method: Quantitative descriptive research type. Population of 77 medical records data for Quarter IV 2023. Simple random sampling technique. Collection of observational data. Univariate data analysis. Results: The accuracy of the injury diagnosis code was mostly inaccurate, 66.2% and 33.8% accurate. External causes code accuracy is 100% inaccurate. Action code accuracy was 83.08% accurate. This coding inaccuracy is mostly caused by fracture conditions that do not apply the fifth digit code to determine whether the fracture is closed or open. Meanwhile, inaccuracies in external causes codes are caused by not coding. Conclusion: The accuracy of coding injuries and external causes most of the inaccuracies were in cases of bone fractures because the fifth digit code was not applied, and the level of accuracy was very low in the external causes code because coding was not carried out.
