Abstract

Kata kunci: pelvic rocking, birth ball, nyeri persalinan, kala I fase aktif ABSTRACT Background : Maternal mortality remains a major public health concern, partly driven by poorly managed labor pain that can prolong labor and in-crease the risk of complications. A preliminary study at Tingkat III 03.06.01 Ciremai Hospital, Cirebon, found that most mothers in the active phase of first-stage labor experienced moderate to severe pain, while the non-pharmacological pelvic rocking technique using a birth ball had not yet been routinely applied. This study aimed to determine the effect of pelvic rocking on labor pain intensity during the active phase of first-stage labor at the hospital in 2026. Methods : A quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pre-test-posttest design was used, involving 30 respondents selected through accidental sampling. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rat-ing Scale (NRS) before and after a 15–30 minute pelvic rocking interven-tion, and data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Re-sults showed that before the intervention, all respondents (100%) experi-enced moderate pain, whereas after the intervention 80% shifted to mild pain and 20% remained at the moderate level. Statistical analysis yielded Z = -4.899 with p = 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant effect of pelvic rocking on reducing labor pain intensity. These findings suggest that pelvic rocking with a birth ball can be adopted as part of the standard operating procedure for non-pharmacological labor pain management, supported by the provision of birth balls, midwife training, and antenatal education for pregnant women to improve the quality of intrapartum care.
