Abstract

Background: Early Initiation of Breastfeeding (EIBF) is an important intervention that promotes exclusive breastfeeding and contributes to reducing infant morbidity and mortality. However, the implementation of EIBF remains suboptimal. The success of EIBF is influenced by several factors, particularly maternal knowledge and family support during pregnancy and childbirth. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between maternal knowledge, family support, and the successful implementation of EIBF among full-term pregnant women in the working area of Kaliwedi Community Health Center in 2026. Methods: This quantitative study employed an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of 25 full-term pregnant women selected using an accidental sampling technique. Data were collected through a maternal knowledge questionnaire, a family support questionnaire, and an observation checklist assessing EIBF implementation. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis and the Chi-square test for bivariate analysis with a 95% confidence level (α = 0.05). Results: Most respondents demonstrated good knowledge of EIBF, received adequate family support, and successfully practiced Early Initiation of Breastfeeding. Bivariate analysis revealed a significant relationship between maternal knowledge and the successful implementation of EIBF (p = 0.012). Family support was also significantly associated with successful EIBF implementation (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Maternal knowledge and family support were significantly associated with the successful implementation of EIBF. Strengthening health education for pregnant women and promoting active family involvement are essential to improve the successful practice of Early Initiation of Breastfeeding. Keywords: maternal knowledge, family support, Early Initiation of Breastfeeding (EIBF), full-term pregnant women.
