Abstract
THE EFFECT OF CATFISH NUGGET SUPPLEMENTARY FOOD ON HEMOGLOBIN LEVELS OF PREGNANT WOMEN WITH ANEMIA IN TANJUNGSARI VILLAGE, GUNUNGTANJUNG DISTRICT, TASIKMALAYA REGENCY, 2025 Maya Nurhayati Tasikmalaya Health Polytechnic Tasikmalaya Applied Midwifery Undergraduate Study Program e-mail: mayanurhayati9@gmail.com ABSTRACT Anemia in pregnancy, as defined by the Indonesian Ministry of Health (2023), occurs when hemoglobin levels fall below 11 g/dL. This condition remains a significant public health concern due to its association with increased risks of maternal and fetal complications (Kamidah et al., 2023). The 2023 National Basic Health Survey (Riskesdas) reported an anemia prevalence of 27.7% among pregnant women in Indonesia. In response, the government has introduced the Multiple Micronutrient Supplement (MMS) program as a more comprehensive strategy to reduce anemia prevalence (Ministry of Health RI, 2024c; WHO, 2020). Nevertheless, the effectiveness of supplementation must be supported by access to nutrient-dense local foods. Catfish (Clarias batrachus) is one such food, rich in protein and heme iron; processing it into nuggets may also enhance acceptability and ease of consumption among pregnant women (Yuniarti et al., 2021). This study aimed to examine the effect of catfish nugget supplementary feeding (PMT) on hemoglobin levels among pregnant women with anemia in Tanjungsari Village Gunungtanjung District Tasikmalaya Regency in 2025. A quasi-experimental pretest–posttest design with a control group was used. The study employed total sampling, involving 26 pregnant women with anemia who were randomly assigned to two groups: 13 participants received MMS combined with catfish nuggets (treatment group), and 13 received MMS alone (control group). Hemoglobin levels were measured before and after the intervention. The treatment group with a mean difference of 1.0154 g/dL, from 9.7 g/dL to 10.715 g/dL. In the control group, hemoglobin levels increased from 9.954 g/dL to 10.092 g/dL, with a mean difference of 0.1385 g/dL. Furthermore, the independent t-test show a significant effect of catfish nugget supplementation, with a p-value of 0.000 < α = 0.05. it can be concluded that catfish nugget supplementary feeding has a significant effect on increasing hemoglobin levels among anemic pregnant women in Tanjungsari Village, Gunungtanjung District, Tasikmalaya Regency, in 2025.
