Abstract

Background: Adolescent girls are a group that is vulnerable to anemia due to unhealthy lifestyle habits. One of the factors influencing the incidence of anemia is lifestyle, which includes dietary patterns, sleep patterns, and physical activity. Objective: To determine the relationship between lifestyle and the incidence of anemia among female adolescents at Husnul Khotimah Islamic Boarding School, Tasikmalaya Regency. Methods: This study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of 72 female adolescents, with a sample of 70 respondents selected using purposive sampling. The independent variable was lifestyle, while the dependent variable was the incidence of anemia. Data were collected using a questionnaire and hemoglobin level measurements with a digital hemoglobinometer. Results: From the 70 respondents, most had a lifestyle in the good category (15.7%), moderate (81.4%), and poor (2.9%). A total of 47.2% of respondents experienced anemia, while 52.8% did not. Bivariate analysis using the Fisher’s Exact Test showed a significance value of p = 0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant relationship between lifestyle and the incidence of anemia among female adolescents at Husnul Khotimah Islamic Boarding School. Conclusion: The study shows that there is a significant relationship between lifestyle and the incidence of anemia. Adolescents with moderate to poor lifestyle habits have a higher risk of experiencing anemia compared to those with good lifestyle habits. Continuous health education is needed to enhance the adoption of healthy lifestyle behaviors in the boarding school environment through improved nutritious eating patterns, adequate sleep, and regular physical activity.
