Abstract
Stunting remains a major nutritional problem in Indonesia, including in West Java Province, with a prevalence of 21.5% in 2023. Fish consumption, as a source of animal protein, is considered to play an important role in preventing stunting. However, fish consumption in Pangandaran Regency remains low, at only 22.2 kg per capita per year. This study aims to describe maternal knowledge, marine fish consumption, and the nutritional status of children aged 6–59 months in Batukaras Village, Cijulang District, Pangandaran Regency. The research employed a descriptive method with a simple random sampling technique, involving 30 children as respondents. The results showed that most of the children were male and in the age group of 12–36 months. About 50% of the parents worked as fishermen, but most of the catch was sold and only a small portion was consumed by the family. Although the majority of parents had a secondary level of education, mothers’ knowledge regarding the importance of fish consumption remained low. Based on anthropometric indicators (weight-for-age, height-for-age, and weight-for-height), most children were classified as having normal nutritional status. However, some cases of undernutrition and stunting were still found. The average daily fish intake among children was 28.18 grams, which falls short of the recommended dietary allowance. These findings suggest that increasing household-level fish consumption must be supported by nutritional education for mothers so that local resources such as marine fish can be optimally utilized to support children's growth and development
