Abstract
The sales value of packaged food and beverages in Indonesia is growing, worth US$56 billion in 2020, up from US$33 billion in 2015. This is certainly in line with the increasing consumption of packaged food due to people's busy lifestyles. This consumption pattern needs to be watched out for because packaged foods have a high sodium, sugar, and fat content. If consumed continuously in excessive amounts, it can be harmful to the health of the body. This is evidenced by the results of the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey which showed an increase in the prevalence of degenerative diseases such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and obesity at 1.7%, 29.2%, and 23.4%, respectively. Therefore, WHO recommends labeling packaged foods for the implementation of a healthier diet. According to a survey by the National Consumer Protection Agency (BPKN) in 2013, it states that public awareness to pay attention to the completeness of labels on food is still very low at only 7.9%. The type of research is descriptive which aims to determine the description of the ability and habits of reading nutritional information labels in students of the Nutrition Department of Tasikmalaya Poltekkes. The population of this study was all students of the Nutrition Department at the Tasikmalaya Poltekkes as many as 248 people. Determination of the research sample was carried out by stratified random sampling method. The sample of this study amounted to 91 people. Data collection was done through filling out questionnaires by respondents. Data analysis was carried out by means of univariate analysis. In this study, it was found that there were 61.5% of respondents with good ability to read nutritional value information labels, and 51% of respondents had low habits of reading nutritional value information labels.
