Abstract

Background: Appendicitis can be defined as inflammation of the appendix and is the most common cause of acute abdomen. Treatment for appendicitis can be carried out surgically, namely by performing an appendectomy. In general, an appendectomy can cause an incision wound so that a person will show a response in the form of pain. Non-pharmacological measures that can be taken to reduce pain are the Benson relaxation technique and Al Qur'an murottal therapy. Objective: to determine the effect of the Benson relaxation technique and Al Qur'an murottal therapy on reducing the pain scale in post-appendectomy patients. Method: the research design used a descriptive method with a case study approach, with a sample size of 2 respondents post appendectomy surgery who experienced pain on a scale of 5-6 NRS by applying the Benson relaxation technique and Al Qur'an murottal therapy which was carried out 2 times a day for 10-15 minute. Results: After implementing 3 days of treatment, the results showed that both respondents experienced a decrease in pain, the first respondent complained of pain on a scale of 6 NRS. After therapy for 3 days, complaints of pain decreased with a pain scale of 2 NRS, and the second respondent complained of pain on a scale of 5 NRS. After 3 days of therapy, pain complaints decreased with a pain scale of 2 NRS. The application of the Benson relaxation technique and Al Qur'an murottal therapy has an influence on reducing the pain scale in post-appendectomy patients.
