Abstract

Green betel leaf and red betel leaf chould be used as an alternative as an active substance in hand sanitizer which was safer and less irritated than alcohol and has been shown to has antibacterial activity. The purpose of this studied was to determine the characteristics and activited of a hand sanitizer gel combination of green betel leaf extract and red betel leaf extract. The method used is experimental by made a hand sanitizer gel combination of green betel leaf extract and red betel leaf extract with variations in the concentration of formula 1, namely 7.5% green betel leaf extract and 2.5% red betel leaf extract, formula 2 is 5% extract. green betel leaf and 5% red betel leaf extract, formula 3 is 2.5% green betel leaf extract and 7.5% red betel leaf extract. Analysis of the data used was descriptive as outlined in the form of a table of observations. The hand sanitizer gel that has the best characteristics and activity was formula 1 which has a brown color, thick texture, characteristic green betel aroma, homogeneous, pH 6.8 ± 0.06, viscosity 3349.17 ± 24.54 cPs, dispersibility 6.8 ± 0.06 cm, adhesion 4.16 ± 0.68 seconds and chould inhibit staphylococcus aureus bacteria with an inhibition zone of 21.98 mm with a very strong inhibitory response.
