Abstract
ABSTRACT Background: Hyperglycemia in pregnancy is a metabolic disorder characterized by elevated blood glucose levels, which may occur when physiological insulin resistance during pregnancy is not adequately compensated by insulin secretion. This condition requires clinical attention because it may increase the risk of maternal and perinatal complications, including preeclampsia, operative delivery, macrosomia, neonatal hypoglycemia, and long-term metabolic disorders in both mothers and infants. Assessment of maternal characteristics, hematological profiles, and urine parameters may serve as an early indicator for detecting and monitoring the risk of hyperglycemia. Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship between maternal characteristics, hematological profiles, urine examination results, and the incidence of hyperglycemia among pregnant women in the midwifery ward of RSD Gunung Jati in 2024–2025. Research Methods: This study used a retrospective observational analytic design with a case-control approach. The sample consisted of 90 pregnant women, including 30 cases and 60 controls, selected through total sampling. Secondary data were obtained from medical records and analyzed using the chi-square test. Results: Significant associations were found between hyperglycemia and maternal age (p=0.004), gestational age (p=0.003), family history (p=0.000), pregnancy complications (p=0.013), hemoglobin (p=0.007), sodium (p=0.024), creatinine (p=0.000), urinary glucose (p=0.000), and urinary protein (p=0.025). Conclusion: Maternal characteristics, selected hematological parameters, and specific urine findings were associated with hyperglycemia; therefore, early detection and laboratory monitoring should be strengthened. Keywords: Hyperglycemia, pregnant women, hematological profile, urine examination, maternal characteristics.
