Abstract
Background: Type II Diabetes Mellitus is a long-term disease that can cause peripheral neuropathy complications due to impaired blood circulation and decreased foot sensitivity. One non-pharmacological therapy that can be performed is foot exercises using a tennis ball to improve foot sensitivity. Sensitivity examination is conducted using the Ipswich Touch Test (IpTT). Objective: To implement tennis ball foot exercises in patients with type II diabetes mellitus at risk of ineffective peripheral perfusion at RSUD Arjawinangun. Methods: The study used a qualitative design with a case study approach on two patients with type II diabetes mellitus who experienced numbness and tingling in their feet. The intervention was conducted for 5 consecutive days, 30 minutes per session. Data were collected through observation, random blood sugar tests, and measurement of foot sensitivity using IpTT before and after the intervention. Results: the sensitivity of both patients' feet increased. Patient 1 experienced an increase in IpTT score from 2 to 5 and a decrease in random blood glucose from 245 mg/dL to 215 mg/dL. Patient 2 experienced an increase in score from 1 to 3 as well as a decrease in random blood glucose from 278 mg/dL to 84 mg/dL. Conclusion: tennis ball foot exercises can help improve foot sensitivity and reduce random blood glucose levels in patients with type II diabetes mellitus. Suggestion: This therapy can be performed independently and routinely at home. Keywords: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, Tennis Ball Foot Exercises, Foot Sensitivity, Ipswich Touch Test (IpTT).
