Abstract
A dan Ny. A dan Ny. Background: Type II Diabetes Mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by elevated blood glucose levels resulting from impaired insulin function. This condition may lead to circulatory disturbances and reduced foot sensitivity, manifesting as tingling, numbness, and stiffness in the lower extremities. Tennis ball foot exercise is one non-pharmacological intervention that can be employed to enhance blood circulation and foot sensitivity. Objective: This study aims to describe the implementation of tennis ball foot exercise on foot sensitivity in Mr. A and Mrs. R with Type II Diabetes Mellitus in the working area of Talun Primary Health Center, Cirebon Regency. Methods: This study employed a qualitative case study method involving two elderly individuals diagnosed with Type II Diabetes Mellitus, namely Mr. A and Mrs. R. Inclusion criteria consisted of elderly patients aged 60–69 years, presenting with reduced foot sensitivity indicated by an Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) value of <0.90, and a random blood glucose level ranging from 200–400 mg/dL. Data were collected through interviews, observation, blood glucose examination, and Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) assessment with a normal threshold value of 0.90, along with evaluation of tingling and stiffness complaints. Tennis ball foot exercise was conducted over five visits with a duration of 10–15 minutes per session, carried out from April 25 to May 4, 2026, in Kepongpongan Village. Results: Following the implementation of tennis ball foot exercise, both patients demonstrated improved foot sensitivity as assessed by the Ankle Brachial Index (ABI), with values reaching the normal range, and complaints of tingling and stiffness in the lower extremities were notably reduced. Conclusion: Tennis ball foot exercise can improve foot sensitivity and enhance blood circulation in patients with Type II Diabetes Mellitus. Recommendations: Fasting blood glucose examination is advised for greater diagnostic accuracy, and tennis ball foot exercise is recommended to be performed once daily.
