Abstract
KEMENTERIAN KESEHATAN REPUBLIK INDONESIA POLITEKNIK KESEHATAN KEMENKES TASIKMALAYA PROGRAM STUDI DIPLOMA III KEPERAWATAN CIREBON Karya Tulis Ilmiah, 17 Mei 2026 Implementasi Diaphragmatic Breathing Exercise Pada Tn. S dan Tn. R Dengan Masalah Keperawatan Pola Napas Tidak Efektif Akibat Penyakit Paru Obstruktif Kronik di Ruang Cut Nyak Dien RSUD Arjawinangun Kabupaten Cirebon Hendri Wijaya1, Tifanny Gita Sesaria2, Edi Ruhmadi3 ABSTRAK Latar Belakang: Penyakit Paru Obstruktif Kronik (PPOK) adalah penyakit paru kronis yang disebabkan oleh berbagai faktor, seperti asap rokok dan polusi udara. Kemudian, akan menyebabkan terhambatnya aliran udara di saluran pernapasan, sehingga terjadi penurunan fungsi paru ditandai dengan gejala respirasi kronik seperti sesak napas, batuk dan produksi sputum. Berdasarkan data dari World Health Organization (WHO), PPOK termasuk salah satu penyebab kematian tertinggi di dunia. Salah satu terapi nonfarmakologis untuk mengatasi masalah pola napas tidak efektif pada pasien PPOK yaitu diaphragmatic breathing exercise. Tujuan: Menerapkan implementasi pada pasien PPOK yang dilakukan terapi diaphragmatic breathing exercise. Metode: Desain karya tulis ilmiah ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Data diperoleh melalui observasi dan wawancara terhadap 2 pasien PPOK yang menerima terapi diaphragmatic breathing exercise selama 5 hari berturut-turut dengan frekuensi 1 kali sehari dan total durasi 15 menit. Hasil: Kedua pasien menunjukkan adanya perubahan kondisi klinis yang baik berupa penurunan frekuensi napas, peningkatan saturasi oksigen, serta selama periode observasi dan intervensi, tidak tampak adanya retraksi otot aksesori napas. Kesimpulan: Implementasi diaphragmatic breathing exercise terbukti efektif dalam memperbaiki masalah pernapasan pada pasien dengan masalah pola napas tidak efektif akibat PPOK. Saran: Terapi diaphragmatic breathing exercise dapat diterapkan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari secara mandiri untuk meminimalisir terganggunya aktivitas maupun konsentrasi yang disebabkan oleh sesak napas. This condition causes airflow obstruction in the respiratory tract, resulting in decreased lung function characterized by chronic respiratory symptoms such as shortness of breath, cough, and sputum production. Based on data from the World Health Organization (WHO), COPD is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. One of the non-pharmacological therapies that can be applied to overcome ineffective breathing patterns in COPD patients is diaphragmatic breathing exercise. Objective: To implement diaphragmatic breathing exercise in COPD patients with nursing problems of ineffective breathing patterns. Methods: This scientific paper used a qualitative descriptive design with a case study approach. Data were obtained through observation and interviews with 2 COPD patients who received diaphragmatic breathing exercise therapy for 5 consecutive days with a frequency of once daily and a total duration of 15 minutes. Results: Both patients showed positive clinical changes, including decreased respiratory rate, increased oxygen saturation, and no visible use of accessory respiratory muscles during the observation and intervention period. Conclusion: The implementation of diaphragmatic breathing exercise was proven effective in improving respiratory problems in patients with ineffective breathing patterns due to COPD. Suggestion: Diaphragmatic breathing exercise can be applied independently in daily life to help reduce shortness of breath so that patients’ activities and concentration are not disturbed.
