Abstract
ABSTRACT Postpartum mothers often experience difficulty in producing breast milk (ASI) which can hinder the success of exclusive breastfeeding. One non-pharmacological effort that can be done to help increase the flow of breast milk is the Marmet technique, which is a massage technique and manual breast milk expression that stimulates the hormones prolactin and oxytocin. Describes the effect of applying the Marmet technique on the flow of breast milk in postpartum mothers in the Wijaya Kusuma Ward of Dr. Soekardjo Regional Hospital. This study used a case study method on two postpartum mothers with a nursing diagnosis of ineffective breastfeeding. The Marmet technique was given for 3 consecutive days on June 2–4, 2026. The flow of breast milk was assessed using an observation sheet for the flow of breast milk before and after the intervention. The results showed an increase in the flow of breast milk in both patients after being given the Marmet technique. In patient I, the smoothness score of breast milk flow increased from 0 to 6, while in patient II it increased from 1 to 3. The greater increase in patient I was influenced by the condition of joint care with the baby so that the frequency of the baby's sucking was more optimal in stimulating the production and release of breast milk compared to patient II who was not joint care. The application of the Marmet technique can improve the smoothness of breast milk in postpartum mothers. Better smoothness of breast milk was found in mothers who underwent joint care with their babies. The Marmet technique can be used as one of the non-pharmacological nursing interventions to help improve the smoothness of breast milk in postpartum mothers and is supported by the implementation of joint care to optimize the success of breastfeeding. Keywords: Exclusive breastfeeding, Marmet technique, and postpartum.
