Abstract

Background : Head injury is an emergency condition that can cause decreased consciousness and hemodynamic changes, such as elevated blood pressure and altered pulse rate. One non-pharmacological intervention that may help stabilize hemodynamic status is Qur'anic murottal therapy. Objective : To determine the outcome of murottal therapy on changes in blood pressure and pulse rate among head injury patients with decreased consciousness in the GICU. Method : This scientific paper used a case study method with a nursing care approach involving two head injury patients with decreased consciousness. Murottal therapy using Surah Ar-Rahman was administered for approximately 15 minutes, once daily in the morning before pharmacological therapy, for three consecutive days. Data were collected through observation of blood pressure and pulse rate before and after the intervention. Results : In Patient 1, blood pressure decreased from 188/100 mmHg to 149/82 mmHg on the first day, and pulse rate changed from 73x/minute to 54x/minute. In Patient 2, blood pressure decreased from 167/91 mmHg to 152/86 mmHg on the first day, and pulse rate changed from 78x/minute to 76x/minute. During the three-day observation period, both patients showed a tendency toward more stable blood pressure and pulse rate. Conclusion : The implementation of Qur'anic murottal therapy in head injury patients with decreased consciousness showed changes in blood pressure and pulse rate after the intervention was administered for three days of treatment. Recommendations : Qur'anic murottal therapy may be considered as a complementary non-pharmacological intervention in nursing care for head injury patients with decreased consciousness to help maintain hemodynamic stability.
