Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a noncommunicable disease (NCD), including type 2 diabetes mellitus. According to the International Diabetes Federation, there are approximately 20.4 million people with diabetes in Indonesia, with a prevalence of 11.0%. West Java Province has a prevalence of 2.2%, which is the same as the national figure. In the city of Tasikmalaya, there are approximately 11,782 people living with diabetes. Based on data from the Tasikmalaya City Health Office, the Tamansari Community Health Center ranks second with 750 patients with diabetes mellitus, an increase compared to the previous year. Eating habits are an important factor in diabetes management because they affect nutritional status, including waist circumference. This study aims to determine the profile of dietary habits and nutritional status based on waist circumference among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at the Tamansari Community Health Center in Tasikmalaya City in 2026. This is a descriptive study using purposive sampling based on specific criteria during the data collection period. The study results showed that most patients adhered to the meal schedule: 18 patients (60%) for main meals and 17 patients (56.6%) for snacks. In terms of food types, 24 patients (80%) still preferred to consume foods that were not recommended. Regarding nutrient intake, the majority of patients fell into the category of severe deficiency: <70% for energy (15 patients, 50%), protein (16 patients, 53%), fat (14 patients, 47%), and carbohydrates (14 patients, 47%). Measurements of nutritional status based on waist circumference showed that 15 patients (50%) had a waist circumference > 80 cm, placing them in the at-risk category, with the majority of these patients being female. The study’s findings indicate that most patients have a good eating schedule, but the types and amounts of food they consume are not yet appropriate, and the majority have a waist circumference that puts them at risk.
