Abstract
ABSTRACT Background: Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is a glucose intolerance disorder that emerges during pregnancy and is associated with increased maternal and neonatal complications. In Tasikmalaya City, understanding the distribution and contributing factors of GDM is essential for improving early detection and preventive strategies. Objective: To analyze factors associated with the incidence of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus among pregnant women in Tasikmalaya City. Methods: This quantitative analytical study used a cross-sectional design with secondary data obtained from the Tasikmalaya City Health Office (January–December 2024). The population consisted of all pregnant women recorded during that period (n = 11,473). All identified GDM cases (n = 14) were included through total sampling. Variables examined included Body Mass Index (BMI), maternal age, gestational age, parity, gestational weight gain, and fundal height (FH). Bivariate analysis was conducted using the Chi-Square test. Results: Out of 11,473 pregnant women, 14 cases of GDM were recorded across 9 primary health centers. All GDM cases (100%) were in the high-risk age group and classified as overweight. Most cases were identified during the third trimester (85.8%), were multiparous (100%), experienced excessive gestational weight gain (100%), and had fundal height measurements above normal (100%). Significant associations were found between GDM and BMI, maternal age, gestational age, parity, gestational weight gain, and fundal height (p = 0.000 for all variables). Conclusion: The incidence of GDM in Tasikmalaya City is associated with multiple maternal and pregnancy-related factors, including BMI, maternal age, gestational age, parity, weight gain, and fundal height. Strengthening screening programs and improving maternal education regarding nutrition and lifestyle are recommended, particularly for high-risk groups. Keywords: Gestational Diabetes Mellitus, Body Mass Index, Fundal Height, gestational weight gain, antenatal screening.
