Abstract
Stroke is a neurological disorder that disrupts blood flow to the brain, causing sudden paralysis and clinical signs lasting less than 24 hours. The prevalence of stroke in Indonesia is estimated to be 2,120,362 cases. West Java province ranks among the top 10 regions with the highest stroke cases, with a prevalence rate of 11.4%. Neurological disturbances can lead to several complications, one of which is dysphagia, or swallowing difficulties. Swallowing disorders can be addressed through various exercises, one of which involves therapy using the Mendelsohn Maneuver technique. The Mendelsohn Maneuver therapy aims to improve swallowing ability by holding the Adam's apple at its highest point for three seconds, which can be assisted with a finger for support. The purpose of this scientific paper is to determine changes in swallowing ability in stroke patients after receiving the Mendelsohn Maneuver therapy. The study design is descriptive qualitative with a case study approach. The research process was conducted over six days, involving two clients, from April 10, 2025, to April 18, 2025. The results indicate an improvement in swallowing ability, as reflected in the GUSS assessment scores of both clients. Client 1 showed a score change from 15 to 19, while Client 2 changed from 17 to 20. Both clients experienced the same score increase of 3. In conclusion, the Mendelsohn Maneuver can enhance swallowing ability in stroke patients experiencing dysphagia.
