Abstract
CORRELATION BETWEEN EXCLUSIVE BREASTFEEDING AND THE INCIDENCE OF STUNTING IN CHILDREN AGED 6-59 MONTHS IN SARIMUKTI VILLAGE, GARUT DISTRICT IN 2024 Yanti Purmayanti Tasikmalaya Health Polytechnic Tasikmalaya Applied Midwifery Undergraduate Study Program Email: yantipurmayanti1979@gmail.com ABSTRACT Stunting is a condition of impaired growth caused by chronic malnutrition and recurrent infections, characterized by children being shorter than the standard height for their age. In 2022, the global prevalence of stunting was 22.3%, while Indonesia recorded 21.6%, still above the WHO-recommended threshold of 20%. This study aims to analyze the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and stunting in children aged 6-59 months in Sarimukti Village, Garut District. The research employed a correlational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 33 children were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and anthropometric measurements. The results revealed a significant relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and stunting incidence (p = 0.001). Among children who received exclusive breastfeeding, 26.1% experienced stunting, compared to 73.9% in the non-exclusive breastfeeding group. These findings underscore the critical role of exclusive breastfeeding in reducing the risk of stunting. The study recommends enhancing education and support for mothers in providing exclusive breastfeeding to strengthen stunting prevention programs. Keywords: Exclusive breastfeeding, toddler, stunting
