Abstract
Aromatherapy is therapeutic method using essential oils to uplift, refresh, and calm. Cinnamon essential oil and kaffir lime leaves are plants that function aromatherapy well as anti-mosquito. The main components of cinnamon essential oil are cinnamaldehyde (60.72%), eugenol (17.62%), and coumarin (13.39%). Kaffir lime leaf essential oil contains ß-citronellal 66.85%, ß-citronellol 6.59%, linalool 3.90%, and citronellol 1.76%. The purpose of this study was to formulate and evaluate preparation of aromatherapy candles with combination of cinnamon essential oil (Cinnamomum burmanni) and kaffir lime leaf essential oil (Citrus hystrix). The method used laboratory experimental aromatherapy candle formulation using three formulas with a concentration ratio cinnamon essential oil and kaffir lime leaves, A1(1:3), A2(2:2), and A3(3:1). Then evaluate the aromatherapy candles including organoleptic test, burn time test, melting point test, aroma durability test, and hedonic test. The results of this study indicate that organoleptically aromatherapy candles have a bone white color, solid texture without cracks, distinctive aroma of essential oils. The melting point obtained in the range of 51.61-52.64 ℃, this in accordance with the SNI 06-0386-1989 standard “Lighting Candles, Quality and Test Methods”. The burn time test showed results in the range 15 hours 38 minutes 42 seconds-16 hours 22 minutes 03 seconds. The aroma the candle began to smell after burning an average of 23.67 seconds, aroma began to spread after 3 minutes, and aroma lasted an 946 minutes. The best formula based on physical evaluation is A3. Meanwhile, based on the hedonic test, the formula that respondents liked was A2.
