Abstract
Background: Caries is a dental tissue disease that begins with tissue damage that begins on the tooth surface (pits, fissures and interproximal areas) then extends to the pulp. The causes of dental caries in a person due to the habit of consuming sweet and sticky foods as well as laziness and mistakes in brushing teeth and rarely having dental health checks every 6 months can also cause dental caries. Dental and oral health problems can occur in both adults and children. Children are more susceptible to this problem, especially elementary school children. Research Objectives: To find out the description of caries status in grade 1 students at SDN 02 Pameungpeuk, Garut Regency. Research Methods: The type used in this study is a descriptive research type which was carried out in an observational manner by taking the total side technique, namely the number of samples of 53 people. Research results: The most caries experience in primary teeth with moderate criteria, namely 18 people (34%) and the most caries experience in permanent teeth with very low criteria, namely as many as 43 people (81%) while the average caries experience in primary teeth is 5.41 with high criteria with a caries prevalence of 100% and an average of 0.75 permanent dental caries with very low criteria with a caries prevalence of 66%. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that the primary teeth caries experience in grade 1 students had the most moderate criteria (34%) and the most permanent teeth caries experience was very low criteria (81%) with an average primary teeth caries experience of 5.41 high criteria percentage of 100% while the average permanent dental caries is 0.75 criteria very low with a percentage of
