Abstract

Hypertension or high blood pressure is an increase in systolic blood pressure of more than 140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure of more than 90 mmHg in two measurements with an interval of five minutes in a state of sufficient rest/calm (Kemenkes RI, 2014). Compliance with taking medication is a condition when the patient takes the right medication, at the right time and at the right dosage according to the rules of the doctor, pharmacist and pharmacy staff. Compliance with taking patient medication greatly influences the success of a treatment therapy (Fillah and Kembaren, 2022). This study aims to determine the level of adherence to taking medication in hypertensive patients at the internal medicine polyclinic at RSUD SMC Tasikmalaya Regency. This study used a descriptive method with cross sectional data collection. Determination of the sample using the accidental sampling technique at the internal medicine polyclinic at RSUD SMC Tasikmalaya Regency, April - May 2023. Measuring adherence was carried out using the MMAS-8 questionnaire (Morisky Medication Adherence Scale) which contains 8 questions. The analysis used in this research is quantitative analysis. The results of this study indicate that women suffer more from hypertension, as much as 63,55% and in the age category > 60 years, 52.08%. Most of the hypertensive patients work as housewives, as much as 51,04%. The most hypertensive patients were elementary school education as much as 39.59%. Treatment of hypertension patients with the highest number of BPJS patients was 93.75%. The therapy for hypertension that is mostly given is the Calcium Channel Blockers (CCB) group, namely amlodipine 95%. Of the 96 respondents involved in this study, it was found that they showed a high level of adherence of 33,34%, a moderate level of adherence of 59,38%, and 7,30% low adherence in the use of antihypertensive drugs. Based on the data from the results of this study, the authors put forward a suggestion, namely, it is necessary to increase counseling by health workers to patients about adherence to taking medication in hypertensive patients, to increase the success of treatment therapy.
