Abstract

Traditional medicine in Indonesia consists of three forms, namely jamu, standardized herbs and phytopharmaca Traditional medicine according to the Regulation of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia Number 7 of 2012 concerning the Registration of Traditional Medicines is prohibited from containing medicinal chemicals (BKO). Dexamethasone is a glucocorticoid corticosteroid drug. Dexamethasone has anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effects by preventing histamine release. Dexamethasone gives the effect of feeling comfortable and fresh and increases appetite. This research aimed to identify dexamethasone in appetite-enhancing herbs sold online. This research method is a laboratory experiment to analyze the chemical drug dexamethasone qualitatively by using Thin-Layer Chromatography (TLC). The mobile phase used to identify dexamethasone was Ethyl acetate: Toluene: Methanol (45:55:1), the solvent used was Chlorophome: Methanol (9:1), and the stationary phase used was silica gel GF254. The sample used is appetite-enhancing herbs circulating in West Java online. The results of the study of six samples of herbal medicine to increase appetite showed that samples of herbal medicine 1, 3, and 4 which were sold online contained BKO dexamethasone, these results were indicated by the Rf value of the sample which was almost the same as the Rf value of the comparison standard. The standard Rf values for comparison are 0.25 – 0.31 while the positive Rf values for the samples are 0.24, 0.20, and 0.24, respectively.
