Abstract

Globally, the prevalence of GDM is estimated at 14% of all pregnancies. At TK III Hospital 03.06.01 Ciremai Cirebon, GDM cases were recorded at 1.3% at the end of January 2026, accompanied by macrosomia incidence of 1.8%. Many pregnant women still have limited knowledge about GDM, which may lead to delayed early detection and prevention of complications. Health education is one of the most effective strategies to improve pregnant women's knowledge about GDM. Objective: To determine the effect of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) education on the knowledge of pregnant women at TK III Hospital 03.06.01 Ciremai Cirebon during the period of February to May 2026. Methods: This was a quantitative study with a pre-experimental design using a one group pretest–posttest design. The sample consisted of 30 pregnant women attending antenatal care (ANC) at TK III Hospital 03.06.01 Ciremai Cirebon, selected by accidental sampling. The research instrument was a validated GDM knowledge questionnaire (Cronbach's Alpha >0.70). Education was delivered over ±30 minutes using a lecture method with leaflet and pocket book media. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test due to non-normal data distribution. Results: Before education, all respondents (100%) were in the poor knowledge category (score 1–10). After education, all respondents (100%) improved to the good knowledge category (score 11–13). The Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test showed Z = -5.477 with p = 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant effect of GDM education on improving pregnant women's knowledge. Conclusion: GDM education significantly improved the knowledge of pregnant women at TK III Hospital 03.06.01 Ciremai Cirebon. Health education using lecture methods and leaflet media proved effective in enhancing pregnant women's knowledge about GDM. It is recommended that GDM education be routinely integrated into Antenatal Care (ANC) services from the first trimester of pregnancy.
